May Day Aloha Festival 2014 Events
Thanks to a Santa Rosa Junior College Foundation Randolph Newman Cultural Enrichment Endowment (RNCEE) Grant, Hui Pūlama Mau, SRJC’s Hawaiʻi Community Organization, is pleased to announce our May Day Aloha Festival 2014 Events.
May Day (May 1st) is a time to celebrate culture in Hawaiʻi. We hope these events will raise awareness and appreciation for the diverse cultures of Hawaiʻi, particularly the host culture of Native Hawaiians. Please share these events with your students. We hope to see you at one or all of our events!

Kumu Hula Shawna Alapaʻi will convey the history of Hawaii’s ancient and powerful moving art form, Hula Kahiko. Attendees will learn about the dynamic movements, chanting, foundational steps and expressive motions of hula while learning the interconnection of hula with nature.
Admission is free. A $4 permit is required to park on campus. The best area to park is in the Emeritus Hall parking lot. See the Campus Map for parking areas and parking permit machine locations.

Star Compass: Polynesian Wayfinding

The Polynesians are the world's greatest navigators who have sailed throughout the Pacific in their voyaging canoes without the use of instruments, using instead their observations of the stars and nature. This new original planetarium show explores and celebrates the science and art of the Polynesian wayfinding.
$10 general / $7 for students and seniors
Tickets sold at the door. Doors open at 6:30pm.
